Lambert was a well-known New York physician and close friend of Theodore Roosevelt. He became an advocate of a quack addiction cure promoted by Charles B. Towns (later called the Towns-Lambert method), which is described in this article. The method attracted criticism, but Towns (a former insurance salesman) and Lambert convinced many influential people of its merits for a few years.
