Radiography
Tomography, X-Ray Computed - Abstract:
- Critical) This program presents the utilization of the 4-1/2 minute Emitronic scanner of the head, using the earliest commercial design of this unit which required 4-1/2 minutes per scanning sweep and utilizing only eight slices per diagnostic study. A series of cases are demonstrated which show computed tomographic scanning in detection of metastasis of the brain from the lung, atrophy of the brain, both nonobstructive and normal pressure, head trauma, hematoma, and multiple aneurysms of the head. Although the presentation is well done, the equipment demonstrated is outdated. Thus, this program is recommended with reservations for medical students. Computerized radiology of the head involves combining an x-ray tube with a computer and allowing the physician to assess intracranial structures. After a brief introduction to computerized radiology and how it works, the presenters provide several examples of its implementation. Computerized radiology can be used on patients of varying ages and backgrounds. The video concludes with a comparison of pros and cons of this technique, concluding that the benefits vastly outweigh the drawbacks.
