Abstract:
(Critical) In this program, Dr. Schatten presents his method for reduction mammaplasty and mastopexy. An excessive amount of time is spent on the introductory remarks which include development of the technique, patient selection, rationale for the method and pre- and post-operative photographs. A mastopexy not a reduction mammaplasty, is then performed on a patient with somewhat enlarged but primary ptotic breasts. Critical points in the technique are not sufficiently covered, including repositioning of the lateral wedge. There is fair explanation of how to bring the nipple out and reposition it. The program concludes with the application of a dressing to the patient. No postoperative photographs are shown. The technique shown has been accepted by a few plastic surgeons and is of limited effectiveness. It requires much intraoperative surgical judgement. The program omits recent modifications which reduce risk and improve outcome. Because it is thus outdated, it is recommended with reservations.
