- This illustrated postcard shows two scenes of hospitalized soldiers. On the left, a white man lays in bed with a book and pipe on the covers. Behind him is a hospital scene showing a nurse carrying a tray with medicine bottles, another patient in bed, and and a doctor speaking to a nurse. A woman is standing at the man's bedside, and she asks if he was wounded in the front, by which she means the battle front, but he replies, "No, madame, exactly the opposite side." An illustration under the panel shows a battle scene with two soldiers in a trench and a third jumping off the ground and holding his backside. In the right-hand panel a dark-skinned soldier lies in a hospital bed. He is smiling and smoking a pipe. A nurse stands over him with a plate of cakes. He indicates that he is always sick because he will have such things as tobacco and cakes.
