Image of book which is open to a page containing a colored etching of a scantly-clad ascetic with right arm elevated. His public display of this self-inflicted pain or mortification could be seen in the temples around Calcutta in the 18th century. The ocher shawl suggests he is a Shivaite. From Solvyns's Collection of two hundred and fifty coloured etchings, sec. 7, pl. 10.
