In the summer of 1919, Sawyer and his family moved to Brisbane, Australia, to head the Rockefeller Foundation's new hookworm control campaign there. Early in 1920 he spent several months visiting the campaign's regional sites and helping to launch control efforts. Workers on rural plantations such as this one were one focus of the campaign.
