In this article, Conway, Franciosa, and Freis reported on timolol, a new beta adrenergic blocking agent that slows the heart rate and reduces pumping volume. They noted that timolol possessed similar antihypertensive activity as propranolol, another beta-blocker, however it did not sustain a similar lowering effect. Because of this, and the small nature of their study, the researchers suggested that the effectiveness of timolol warranted further study.
