One common characteristic shared by those who take 'speed' is youth. They have to be young to withstand the beating the drug gives them, with its long periods of frenzied activity, days and nights without sleep or food. As most consistent drug users cannot and will not hold a steady job, and as few 'square' friends will put with their frequent mood changes, they tend to drift ever more closely together
