In 1934, Dr. Sawyer made another trip to Brazil to inspect yellow fever control activities, including an investigation of a puzzling outbreak of the disease in a rural region near the Bolivian border. With Dr. Fred Soper, Sawyer traveled by car to Coronel Ponce, where the most recent yellow fever cases had occurred. In this photo, their driver (foreground) dips out water for the radiator, while other travelers look on.
