In his autobiography Soper notes that Dr. Marshall A. Barber made a vital contribution to the eradication of Anopheles gambiae during his tour of the epidemic areas with Soper: he showed that larvicide (Paris green) could be diluted with dirt and sand, and broad-cast over breeding areas, so no mechanical duster was needed.
