- Illustration of a meeting that took place in the hospital room of Vera Gelo, a Russian student who had been injured while coming to the aid of a professor in the Collège de France. A Mlle. Zelenine had approached M. Emile Deschanel with a revolver as he prepared to lecture. Gelo lunged between Zelenine and Deschanel and was critically injured as the shots were fired. The illustration shows the repentant Zelanine embracing Gelo in the latter's hospital bed. A nun prays to the left. In the background, agents from the Saint-Lazare prison watch.
