Image caption on page 52 of the book US National Library of Medicine: "Dating from the 1950s, this is a view of the 'Old Red Brick,' in the decade prior to both its designation as a historic landmark and its later demolition. In 1964, the Secretary of the Interior approved a recommendation, submitted by the National Survey of Historic Sites, to recognize the building as a Registered National Historic Landmark. In October 1968, the doors were ceremoniously closed for the last time in preparation for its demolition and the construction of the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden which stands in its place today."
