One of the concerns of the World Helath Organizations was the prevalence of yaws, a non verneral disease related to syphilis. In the early 1950s, control programs were started. By 1965, 150 million people had been examined and 45 million treated with penicillin in the yaws endemic zones. WHO/12597.
