In the Eastern Mediterrean Region, the statue of women is changing. They are becoming "persons" in their own right. In public health, this improved status of women of importance, because of the increasingly active part ther are taking in health programs and their greater influence in family and public life. Not antisepsis but tradition has these assistant nurses swathed in white. They are some of the first group of twelve to obtain their diploma are the Health Centre in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. They are now working in the Sanaa's health services but also attend midwifery classes daily.
