According to Dr. Paul Dudley White, the noted cardiologist, the prevention of heart disease " has attracted less attention than is diagnosis and treatment. It obviously deserves the first priority but it is less dramatic than surgical procedures... and the doctors are overworked simply taking care of sick people." Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death in many of the industrial nations. And as the developing countries move toward industrial economies, the incidence of these diseases increase sharply. While the World Health Origanization is concerned with the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, the greater concern is with their prevention, at the individual ans community levels. At the sahlgren's hospital in Goteborg (Sweden), a waiting room for cardiac patients taking part in a survey of cardiovascular diseases. WHO/15478.
