This film, aimed at children of primary school age, presents the principles of good dental care. A narrator explains the basic steps to be followed in order to keep the teeth healthy. In animation, a family of mother, father, sister, brother, and baby illustrates those steps. The action begins with the baby cutting his first tooth. The role of the teeth in cutting and grinding is outlined. The family is shown eating foods which help to keep teeth strong and healthy--carrots, apples, celery, and salad. How decay rots a tooth is illustrated. The necessity of brushing the teeth after each meal is emphasized in footage of the family eating, then brushing. The family plans to go on a picnic. As the mother packs the lunch, she takes candy away from the boy and gives him a sandwich instead. On the day of the picnic, the family drives to the country. The mother has packed a lunch of milk, oranges, apples, brown bread sandwiches of tomatoes and of meat, and radishes--the foods which build strong, healthy teeth. After the picnic lunch, the family members rinse their mouths out with water to wash away little bits of food between their teeth. The day after the picnic, the boy goes to the dentist for a checkup. His teeth are in good condition because he follows the four basic rules of good dental care: brushing after eating; eating foods which build strong teeeth; avoiding decay-causing sweets; and visiting the dentist twice a year.
