Abstract:
This program discusses the history and presentation of conjoined twins and illustrates the subject with a case history detailing the birth, results of arteriography, and surgery for separation. While most cases result in early death, there have been over 300 cases in which the twins survived for many years. Examples of the major types of divisions are given, and brief summaries are presented of the lives of famous conjoined twins (also known as Siamese twins) throughout history. The second half of the program details the successful separation of a pair of infant conjoined twins, though only one survives the procedure.
