(Critical) This program evaluates techniques of enhancing the tooth's natural resistance to dental caries. Various methods of employing fluoride are compared, such as professional application, public health strategies, and self-application. Animal experimentation at NIH is reviewed. Topical and systemic effects are not differentiated. This information is somewhat out of date and is not sufficiently substantive for dental students. The program is recommended with reservations as an introduction to the topic or for use in allied health professions.
