Abstract:
(Critical) This program discusses the treatment of lid and skin lesions, specifically basal and squamous cell carcinoma, by cryosurgical techniques. These techniques are favorably compared with surgical excision in regard to final cosmetic and functional results for a specific patient group. Preoperative biopsy, postoperative follow-up and management of complications are included. Appropriate clinical cases are used to emphasize various teaching points. The program's objectives are clear and well organized, though the pacing is sometimes slow. Simple explanation of equipment set-up and maintenance is useful. Neither too technical nor simplistic, this module is recommended for ophthalmology residents, practitioners, nurses and paraprofessionals.
