Abstract:
(Critical) Basic instruction on one method of obtaining capillary blood samples in sufficient volume to perform hematocrit tests and approximate blood glucose levels is presented in this program. Techniques for sample collection to provide correct test results are compared with adverse results obtained from improperly collected samples. While use of capillary blood in hematocrit determination and blood sugar levels are explicitly described, the performance of hemoglobin levels, white blood counts, and blood smear for differential observations are merely listed. Occasionally terminology is employed without definition which is distracting. The fact that this presentation applies to one very specific procedure, whereas a number of accepted techniques are in use, is not emphasized. The quality of the video cassette is good and it is recommended for use.
