Abstract:
(Critical) This program presents a demonstration of the management of the patient who is thought preoperatively to have small bowel obstruction secondary to intussusception of the small bowel but is found to have an obstructing carcinoma of the transverse colon. Difficulties in resecting a patient with a large dilated colon and large dilated loops of the small bowel are demonstrated as well as decompression of the small bowel. The resection and ileotransverse colostomy are carried out using autosuture staples. The presentation is well done and meets its objectives. Thus, the program is recommended for surgeons, gastroenterologists and oncologists.
