- Abstract:
- (Critical) This program presents examples of hearing problems in children and demonstrates tests that can be used in the office to test a child's hearing. It also emphasizes the fact that deafness or hearing loss can occur at an early age and if a parent questions a child's hearing abilities, the practitioner should pay heed. The material is basically well-presented, but it is not totally accurate. Thus, the program is recommended with reservations for pediatric and primary care medical and nursing students. and This program chronicles three doctor’s appointments with mothers and their children who may have hearing deficits. The children range in age from a few months old to five years. Emphasis is made on early detection, so that the children can get assistance as soon as possible. Late speech and lack of response to loud noises can be early signs of hearing impairment. If there is a potential problem, the children are sent to an audiologist to conduct further hearing tests and identify necessary interventions. With proper care, they will be able to live normal lives.
