Dr. Robert Hillman interviews a female patient suffering from chronic leukemia. He begins by having her explain her understanding of the disease and the ways it has affected her life and family. Because she no longer has the stamina for the level of activity she was accustomed to, her husband tends to stay home with her rather than going out, while her adult daughters do not seem to have accepted her illness. She finds strength within herself and is determined not to give in to feelings of despair. Insurance is currently covering most of the treatment costs, but she is not eligible for disability benefits. She feels comfortable with her doctors and the care she has been receiving.
