This 1975 program, part of a series on temporal bone dissection sponsored by the Ear Research Institute, Dr. Jack L. Pulec of the Otologic Medical Group describes and demonstrates precise and accurate methods for the identification of the facial nerve at any point in its course through the temporal bone and how to work with, on, and around the nerve in such a way as to avoid injury to the patient. Some of these methods are quite common, while others are less so and must be used in very difficult situations. Close-up, detailed footage of surgery and diagrams are used to portray these demonstrations. and (Critical) This program gives an excellent review of the surgical anatomy of the temporal bone. The presentation is well done, current and accurate. The commentary is excellent for graduate medical trainees in otolaryngollogy. The program is suitable for repeated viewing.
