This black and white photographic postcard shows the corpse of a man in an open coffin. It purports to be the body of a German soldier named Rammler, who was executed for refusing to fire on the English nurse Edith Cavell at her execution on October 12, 1915 in Belgium. The true identity of the soldier and whether he in fact even existed are disputed.
