This color illustrated postcard is an advertisement for Amaro Santa Maria del Monte bitters. The recipe, containing many plant extracts, was handed down over several generations at the Madonna del Monte sanctuary in Genoa. In the late 19th century Nicola Vignale began commercial production. The image shows a character dressed in a suit of dark pants, white vest and shirt, black tie and green jacket. His head is a globe. He is holding a bottle of the Amaro and looking at a woman. She is facing away from him, but has turned her head to look. She is wearing a pink gown, fitted at the top and billowing out at the bottom. Gold hair is piled high on top of her head.
