- Image caption on page 58 of the book US National Library of Medicine: "These are examples of the library's so-called 'Bathtub Collection.' Traditional bookbindings were padded out with 'binder's waste' - bits and scraps of paper pressed into service inside of the binding, between leather and board. When the library removed old bindings in the Cleveland workshop, Dorothy Schullian assiduously collected the discarded material, took it home, and soaked it apart in her bathtub to get at the binder's waste. When the bits contained identifiable text, she returned them to the library where staff catalogued them as the 'Bathtub Collection.'" Courtesy of Stephen J. Greenberg."
