After the library initiated a concentrated and comprehensive collection policy, new forms of record keeping were developed to track and identify acquisitions. This is an example of the earliest bookplate used for new acquisitions. Originally, library staff listed on a bookplate the donor of books given to the library along with the accession number, but later staff recorded the name of the donor only in the accession record books."
