Over 20 million Americans have gained coverage as a result of the ACA, driving the share of Americans without health insurance to the lowest level in history.2,3 Among those gaining coverage have been millions of Americans who need treatment for opioid use disorders, other substance use disorders, or other behavioral health conditions. Evidence suggests this coverage expansion has improved access to care and outcomes for Americans with opioid or other substance use or mental health disorders.
