Advertisement for Dr. Marshall's Snuff. Dr. Benjamin Marshall of New York City first started to market the snuff product in the early 1830s. It was proclaimed that it was a cure for catarrh and throat and lung diseases, etc. Around 1835, Charles Bowen from Montpelier, Vermont became the sole proprietor of this product.
