Postcard featuring a black and white image of Grand Duchess Luise of Baden, her daughter Victoria, Queen of Sweden, and Prince Lennart, Queen Victoria's grandson. The Grand Duchess is approximately 77 years old in the photograph. She wears a long black dress and a long, black widow's cap. There is a white band around her left wrist with a Red Cross insignia on it. Hanging from her left wrist is chatelaine. She is bending slightly over and looking down at her great grandson, her left hand on his left arm. The Prince wears a white sailor suit and holds a ball in the crook of his left arm. Queen Victoria of Sweden stands taller than the other two, with her right hand on the back of a chair. She wears a long white skirt and shirtwaist and a pearl choker. Her dark hair is upswept. The Grand Duchess corresponded with Florence Nightingale and was a friend of Clara Barton, with whom she organized military hospitals. During WWI she often welcomed home wounded German soldiers.
