Theodor (The) Svedberg (1884-1971), the Swedish chemist and Nobel Laureate who pioneered the use of the ultracentrifuge, which allowed for the accurate measurements of molecular weight. Heidelberger spent two summers, in 1934 and 1936, in Svedberg's laboratory at the University of Uppsala.
