Still negotiating for funding and equipment in the spring of 1956, Franklin set down in this note the nature and significance of her research on viruses, and argued that adequate funding for the team was essential if British scientists were to retain their leading position in the field. Her budget projections provide an example of the scale of such a lab in the 1950s.
