Dr. Donald S. Fredrickson, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is walking with Dr. Arthur Kornberg, of Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Earl Reece Stadtman, chief of the laboratory of biochemistry at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), is walking close behind them. They are leaving the White House after the National Medal of Science was presented to Drs. Kornberg and Stadtman. The White House west wing and rear entrance are in the background.
