NIH scientists, Drs. Harry M. Meyer, Jr. and Paul D. Parkman, developers of a promising new experimental vaccine against rubella (German measles). Here, they inspect a culture of the virus used in preparing the vaccine. [caption on verso:] Rubella is a major hazard to unborn infants whose mothers may have become infected during pregnancy. Deformity, blindness, deafness, heart disease and mental retardation are possible consequences of pre-birth rubella infection. The Meyer-Parkman vaccine is now undergoing further development and testing prior to large scale commercial production for general use.
