Set in El Salvador, María and Juan are a hard-working rural couple. They cultivate a small parcel of land as did their parents and grandparents. Their four children enjoy better health and resources than they did when young. However, each year resources become more scarce, and their expenses rise. The land’s yield is less abundant. They consider family planning, and each seeks the advice of two health professionals; for Juan, the local town doctor; and for Maria, the village nurse. In comparing the methods offered for men and women respectively, they reach a decision based on their needs as a family. Produced by Airlie Productions, in collaboration with the Ministerio de Salud Pública y Unión Comunal Salvadoreña for the Centro de Diálogo Inter-Americano.
